It’s been three years since Nissan’s premium arm let the Infiniti Q30 Concept out into the world, yet the premium compact hatchback is nearing production reality. Nissan UK announced that recruitment has started for 300 new jobs at Sunderland, supporting Infiniti Q30 production.
After a generous investment in its Sunderland facilities, Nissan made extensions that total over 25,000 square meters, representing a new body shop and an updated trim and chassis assembly line. Regarding those 300 new recruits, Nissan needs them to “join the company ahead of the start of production of Q30 later this year.”

Based on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the Infiniti Q30 follows the premium compact hatchback recipe. Heck, the Q30 is Infiniti’s first global premium compact entry. Furthermore, it’s the brand’s first model to be built in Europe. According to the Japanese brand, the start of Q30 production at Sunderland will be closely followed by a second Infiniti nameplate - the QX30, based on the A-Class’ crossover brother - the GLA.

The 2016 Infiniti Q30 hatchback and 2016 Infiniti QX30 crossover happen to be the first Infiniti models that will be exported from Sunderland to places like the U. S. of A. and China. Regarding both models’ underpinnings, it goes without saying that the slightly modified Mercedes W176 platform will adopt powerplants and transmissions we already are accustomed to.

A 2.1-liter turbo diesel, a 2-liter turbo petrol, the 7G-DCT automatic and 4Matic all-wheel drive are in the cards. At the present moment, it’s not known if Renault’s 1.5L and 1.6L mills and Nissan’s 1.6L DIG-T turbo petrol could make an appearance too. On an ending note, you can apply for a manufacturing job at Nissan Sunderland by visiting careersatnissan.co.uk.
