Subaru is alive and kicking in Japan, but it also has an eye for families and holiday cruising. Seriously, what better way to show such intentions with a seven-seat crossover?
Luckily or not, the Exiga Crossover 7 was developed by Subaru exclusively for their home-country market. However, the US could also receive the SUV-wagon but in a different wrapping inspired - technically and visually - by the Exiga.

Under the hood lies a 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer powerhouse running on petrol. As it drinks up fuel, the engine can deliver 173 HP and 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) of torque and drivers get a CVT to manage these resources. Traction comes from Subaru's in-house built Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, and fuel consumption is rated at 7.6 l/100 km (31 mpg US).

From now on, Exiga will be the biggest crossover Subaru is offering in Japan, thanks to a generous cabin. But space is not enough for big families, which means the Japanese had to come up with folding seats for the third and second row, in case more storage capacity was needed.

Potential customers will be able to get the Subaru Exiga Crossover 7 starting next month. The starting price tag was set by Subaru at around 2,750,000 yen, the equivalent of $23,100 at current exchange rates, plus eight percent consumption tax.

Their ambitions are highlighted by a monthly target of 600 units, which, in theory, shouldn't be that hard to attain. On a personal note, I am encouraged by the amount of space offered by the additional third row of seats - at least, that's what the pictures tell - in comparison to other five-seaters from rival carmakers that can't even accommodate two children in decent conditions on those seats.
