After lots of photo and video teasing, the veil finally dropped two weeks ago and the new smart generation of models made its world debut. In Germany, where first deliveries are programmed for November 22nd, the fortwo will carry a €10,895 ($14,590) sticker price, while the slightly bigger forfour will be priced from €11,555 ($15,474 at current exchange rates).
The 2015 smart fortwo as well as the forfour in entry-level guise come with a 999cc mill with three cylinders, 71 horsepower and 91 Nm of torque available from 2,850 rpm. This pipette of an engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Standard features? We'll highlight the LED daytime running lights, cruise control with variable speed limiter, the instrument cluster with a monochrome LCD display and trip computer, as well as power front windows.

If you need more get-up-and-go, then the best you can do is upgrade to the top-of-the-range 898cc turbocharged three-pot churning out a "generous" 90 horsepower and 135 Nm from 2,500 rpm. This engine choice benefits from automatic start and stop and a turbo fitted with an electronically controlled wastegate. Another mechanical feature that might interest you is the optional twinamic six-speed dual clutch transmission, expected to be much smoother than the automated manual box that ruined the appeal of the outgoing generation.

The all-new smart fortwo and forfour are both available in three equipment lines - Passion, Prime, and Proxy. At €1,390 ($1,860), the Passion trim level gets you a very funky color combo for the cabin (black & orange or black & white), an instrument cluster that drops the monochrome screen for a 3.5-inch color TFT display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel laden with buttons and Direct-Steer.

Move up to the Prime and €1,990 ($2,663) for the fortwo or €2,150 ($2,878) for the forfour will add black leather and white stitching on the seats, heated front seats, a leather gear knob, as well as the Lane Keep Assist safety gizmo. A whopping €3,390 ($4,538) for the fortwo and €3,500 ($4,685) gets you the top-of-the-line Proxy trim level, adding 16-inch alloys, a better air conditioning unit and stereo, white and blue fabric inserts for the leather seats and a panoramic glass roof.

If you want to go all out with customization, than you might be interested in the Edition #1 special edition models, that add a few extra bits and bobs over the Proxy trim level and are priced from €13,990 ($18,728) for the fortwo or €14,990 ($20,066) for the forfour.
