The race in the pony car segment has been reaching the boiling point in recent times. Dodge upped the ante, the Blue Oval followed and accepted the challenge with the 2015 Ford Mustang, while Chevrolet sat and waited to see how the game will be played before unveiling the new Camaro.
We like to approach things chronologically and after getting our hands on the 2014 Dodge Challenger 392, the 2015 Ford Mustang was in line for a test drive session. Or several, for that matter.

You see, the Mustang in now what Ford likes to call a global car. After 51 years of iconic existence in America and in almost everything the US have produced in terms of movies, commercials, and whatnot, the Mustang is given the chance of performing in other parts of the world.

Ford couldn't send their pony car unarmed on European territory, so they kept the 5.0-liter V8 for the Mustang GT and the hardcore 'Stang fanbase, while the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine tries to abide European strict and expensive taxation policies.

The EcoBoost is not at all a bad engine, but perhaps its biggest flaw is failing to be a V8. Again, it's not the engine's fault, as the European market demands such solutions. We got to test the Mustang Convertible equipped with this unit, and we felt the car's weight was a bit too much at times for the EcoBoost. However, if it's cruising you're into, this engine is for you, and the improvements brought to the 'Stang's chassis will also work towards that.

On the other hand, the V8 is what the Mustang was destined to hide under the hood. This is what the pony car was prepared to wear with pride; the V8 is the only engine capable of matching that shark-like exterior and every petrolhead's right sole. It has the power, the sound, and the verve to keep the Mustang flag up until the next generation arrives. The V8 was also a source of electricity up and down our spine, but that has nothing to do with the green movement.

We've addressed this and many other spicy details in our 2015 Ford Mustang review, so feel free to head over there and find out our impressions on the new pony car.
