The S550 Mustang is a pony of many firsts. While our attention is currently focused on the 2016 model year with its hood turn signals and California Special pack, the Old Continent is preparing to get its first batch of the 2015MY Ford Mustang. You’ve heard that right.
In the Blue Oval’s defense, logistics are a pain in the you know what if you consider that only Flat Rock is handling production of the sixth-gen Ford Mustang. Furthermore, most differences between the 2015 and 2016 models are few and minor, all things considered.
Another reason why the US and Euro-spec ponies are different comes in the guise of location-specific regulations. These include the fact some people drive right-hand drive cars on the left-hand side of the road.
As mentioned beforehand, the S550 is a Mustang of many firsts. Other than technical highlights such as the flat-plane crank Voodoo V8 of the Shelby GT350 and IRS (independent rear suspension), the S550 is the first production-ready Mustang to spawn a right-hand drive model. According to the Ford Motor Company, deliveries of the RHD Mustang begin this October.
It took Ford roughly 50 years to develop a RHD pony, but they’ve done it, as you can see in the live photos featured in the gallery below. Ford aims to sell the S550 Mustang in “more than 120 countries” in 2015, including approximately 25 right-hand drive markets. In Europe, the cheapest 2.3-liter EcoBoost-powered Mustang is €35,000. Its vee-eight brother is €5,000 more expensive, but who can say no to the burble of a good ol’ all-American V8 lump?
