Last time we reported about the Dodge Durango was when Ron Burgundy showed up on Conan O’Brien’s late-night talk show to say that Chrysler’s new SUV is a terrible car.
He was obviously kidding. Oh wait, Ron Burgundy doesn’t even exist. So yeah, it was just an awesome marketing plot, with Will Ferrell at his best that, worked like a charm, helping 2014 Durango sales jump 59 percent in October.
But we’re not here to talk about the road-going SUV, we just wanted to show you a Dodge Durango that’s been modified by El Martillo Racing so it could take on the rough terrain and sand dunes of the 2014 Dakar rally.
Built from the ground up in San Diego, the vehicle features a chro-moly chassis, a carbon fiber and Kevlar body, a 7.6-liter V8 engine by Redline Motors, stainless steel headers and exhaust, and 37-inch BFG KR2 off-road tires.
The 2014 Dakar Rally, which is scheduled to run through Argentina, Bolivia and Chile, will commence on January 5, 2014 and will end two weeks later.
