Apart from the two rebuilt Hilux pickups from South Africa, Toyota will have two more vehicles racing in the famous Dakar Rally in January 2014.
Toyota Auto Body Co. subsidiary announced to run a new team in the Dakar Rally, using two specially-built Land Cruiser 200 SUVs that will use only biodiesel fuel to race across the roughly 5,500 kilometers.
“I want to compete on the world stage in a Japanese car and with Japanese technology,” driver Jun Mitsuhashi said Wednesday at an event in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture.
Running from January 5th to 18th, 2014, the race is open both for amateurs with off-road racing license as well as for professional teams. The rally will go through three countries, starting in Rosario, Argentina, and ending in Valparaiso, Chile.
