The Golf will soon enter its seventh generation, launched relatively soon after the sixth, which was just a reengineered version of the fifth. Sounds confusing, right? It was the same for us when we first saw leaked photos of this new car which seemed to be pretty much the same as the old one.
However, VW clearly wanted to build a better Golf, one that lighter and better equipped, and you can’t blame them for that. What you can blame them for is the fact that the GTI is not focused on being the most fun it can be.

When it arrives in the first half of 2013, the new GTI will only have 220 hp or at best 230 if you go for a special pack. Hot hatch fans will already know just how much more powerful its old rivals are – Megane RS has 265 hp, Ford Focus ST III has 250 hp and the Opel Astra OPC has a massive 280 hp.

We’ve already showed you the three-door concept for the MkVII Golf GTI a few days ago, and now we have video footage by Marchettino of the five-door version. We know that this more practical version will be preferred by customers over the 3-door. The concept is shod in Laser Blue Metallic, an old favorite with Golf fans and appears to have 18-inch wheels that are a fresh take on the old Monza rim.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
