Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors has issued a recall for its 2013 model year Model S sedan to fix a rear seat mounting bracket that could malfunction in the event of a crash.
The recall affects the 1,228 units of the Model S built from May 10, 2013, through June 8, 2013, but Tesla suspects that only 20 percent of them have welds that may not survive a crash. The defect was discovered by a company assembly line worker. No customer complaints and no injuries have been reported so far.
Owners will be contacted over the next few days to have their vehicles repaired free of charge. Tesla will arrange pickups and drop-offs for the recalled EVs and supply loaner cars as well.
In other Tesla related news, the California-based automaker failed to get a dealer license in Texas earlier this month and won’t be able so sell vehicles on its own in the “Lone Star” state.
