Renault's previous Clio GT model had many good traits and even more bad ones. The 1.6-liter engine it borrowed from the Twingo RS wasn't that much more powerful than a regular 1.6-liter, offering 133 PS instead of just 110 PS, but it was quite thirsty and still required constant gear shifting.
Last week, we showed you the very first images of a new generation Clio GT, based on the Mark IV chassis. The information we received from Renault insiders suggested a 1.2-liter TCe turbo engine would replace the 1.6-liter and be offered with their much anticipated EDC gearbox. This combo will ensure much lower fuel consumption and a more relaxed but sporty drive.

These are the very first press photos of the same car, this time coming from Russian website Autowp. They show the Clio GT as it will be shown either today or tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show, sporting a brand new front bumper design.

We do love this sporty hatch, especially since it's going to be about €5,000 less expensive than the RS. Unfortunately, we're not completely sold on the engine. Renault probably wanted to offer more power but didn't have a 1.4-liter TCe block at its disposal to tune, and so chose to start with the 1.2 TCe 100.

Still, it's got more power than a Polo 1.2 TSI 105 and is on par with the best non-ST Fiesta. We'll likely have full information about this car later today.
