In what turns out to be one of the most tormenting launches of a car in 2010, the South Koreans from Kia released today yet another photo of the new generation Kia Optima/Magentis, this time one showing the interior of the car.
The saloon to join the Kia range will make its public world premiere at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), to be held at the beginning of April. Kia promises the Optima/Magentis will bring "a car that people will simply not expect from Kia", with "class-leading levels of safety and luxury equipment."
Until the official release of the car, there are a few details known about the saloon. The car is longer, lower and wider than the outgoing model, coming in a coupe-like guise enhanced by the chrome arc which flows from the A to the C pillar.
There is little word on what the car will pack under the hood. The outgoing version uses a four-cylinder lineup comprising a 2.0-liter 163 hp, a 2.4-liter 179 hp and a 2.7-liter V6 unit, with most expecting all to remain practically unchanged in the new model.
"The next generation of Magentis possesses the power to surprise,” Peter Schreyer, Kia’s chief design officer says in a release when the exterior of the car was revealed. “This new model embodies Kia's confident new design direction. It's a global car with individual appeal."
The car will go on sale from fall 2010 in the US, while sales in Europe will begin in spring 2011.
