2011 Buick Regal Confirmed

General Motors announced, during a Buick GMC dealer business meeting, that Buick's next mid-size sport sedan will be called Regal, but hasn't provided more details on the projected launch date. Information is pretty limited at this point but Buick hinted that the sedan will be launched in both North America and China.

“The transformation of Buick began with our luxury crossover, the Buick Enclave and continued this year with the launch of the 2010 LaCrosse premium sedan,” said Susan Docherty, Buick GMC General Manager. “We’re thrilled to announce that the Regal will be the next member of the Buick family.”

Buick Regal is a well-known model when it comes to this particular brand, as the company produced the mid-sized car between 1973 and 2004. The model continued to be offered to Chinese buyers even after the North American discontinuing but the future model will most likely represent the new generation that will replace the Chinese model and come as a brand new model in North America.

Wondering what made General Motors choose the Regal name? The US-based former bankrupt automakers says the the Regal name made history for Buick so the future model is expected to be a real market hit.

"The Regal name has played a very important role in Buick’s history for many years and continues to be one of the top Buick nameplates recalled by consumers even though it’s been out of the market for the past six years," the company said in a press statement.

"Future new sedans and crossovers will continue to expand Buick's portfolio both in North America and China."
