Just as expected, this year’s Paris Auto Show marked the debut of several innovative concepts designed by manufacturers coming from around the world. In Nissan's case, the center stage was taken by the Townpod concept, a vehicle designed to adapt to driver’s way of living. Or at least this is how Nissan sees it.

Compared with a white T-shirt by the Japanese manufacturer, the Nissan Townpod concept is said to be suitable for business or pleasure or for those to whom business is pleasure. The concept car combines the benefits of a passenger car with the practicality of a light commercial vehicle.

Finished in Stratosphere White, the car features charging points that can be found in the nose behind an automatically retracting cover, which appears to be backlit thanks to its electric blue painted surrounds. Similar electric blue hints are visible behind the door handles, number plate, the spokes of the alloy wheels and within the headlamp pods.

Moreover, while the headlights can also be used as position markers, the semi-silvered coating over the indicators turns them into modern reflectors when the turn signals are not in use. “The rear lights are designed to reflect light like cut jewels when not in use, and to sparkle rather than simply glow when illuminated,” Nissan says.

Inside the Townpod, Nissan has fitted a dual screen display. The upper monitor serves as an instrument panel, displaying car speed, battery status and remaining range as well as a satellite navigation system. On the other hand, the lower touchscreen provides all controls for the navigation system and operates the audio system.

Other highlights of the concept include a disappearing long sliding rear bench and the Puck, a rubber ball, about the size of a squash ball that can accommodate drink holders, cell-phone rests and hand-bag hooks, among others.

Nissan says the Townpod is a zero-emission vehicle, but failed to give any details on the car’s powertrain except for the fact that employs the same technology found on the company’s LEAF model.
