Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) US will feature for the first time on the Lexus HS 250h luxury hybrid sedan, set to begin sale in summer, its Lexus Enform telematics, a system designed to enhance safety and security systems for motorists.
Enform boasts a wide range of gadgetry and services, starting with the more common Automatic Collision Notification (ACN) and going as far as eDestination. All of the services are available by subscription and offered on navigation-equipped HS vehicles.
Motorists safety is looked after by the ACN system, which in case of a collision, will notify the response center via embedded cellular technology and GPS. Further more, an Emergency Assistance Button (SOS) is designed to allow motorists to get in touch with the call center in case other types of emergencies should occur.
The plain old GPS was enhanced on the Lexus HS 250h, as it now features Destination Assist and eDestination. The first of them let's the driver get live operator assistance with finding destinations (it is, if you'd like, a low tech GPS: ask and we'll direct you).
The eDestination feature on the other hand will allow the HS drivers to go online and organize destinations of their choice and then send them wirelessly to their vehicle. After deciding on the destination, the user simply selects “save to vehicle” and their personalized destinations will be available to load into the vehicle’s navigation system upon the next start up.
Subscribers will be able to build a destination library of up to 20 customized folders, with up to 10 destinations per folder. The folder cache will remain online for users to save or update as they see fit. Not a good idea, if you share the Lexus with your wife...
Being a luxury hybrid sedan and all, the Lexus HS 250h is bound to catch the criminals' eye. If you have it stolen, Enform also features Stolen Vehicle Location (SVL), a system which will assist in tracking the location of the stolen vehicle using the vehicle’s GPS. Again, not a good idea to share this information with the wife, as she might use it to track your trip (pleasure cruise) with your coworkers (lover) to a conference (hotel) on financial decline (sex).
Subscriptions for Lexus Enform include a one year trial period and will be offered when purchasing the HS 250h. Prices are not yet known for the subsequent years of service, but the manufacturer says it will release them closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.
