After announcing the facelifted version of the cee'd, Kia makes the headlines one more time, this time with the help of the Sorento SUV which will be also showcased at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. The new version of the seven-seat car is longer and lower compared to the current model, with the length raised by 4,685 mm (4,567 mm on its predecessor).
The new 2.2-liter diesel engine configuration releases a maximum power of 194 bhp and 310 lb-ft of torque and is mated to either a manual six-speed transmission or to a six-speed auto gearbox.
"With the new Kia Sorento, we have created an all-new, ‘Highline Cruiser’ that we believe offers buyers the benefits of an exciting all-rounder with a much broader appeal," Panu Vainamo, Kia’s European manager for marketing, said.
“Kia engineers have ditched the original Sorento’s body-on-frame structure and designed an all-new monocoque bodyshell – achieving a weight loss of up to 215 kg, greatly improving fuel economy and contributing to a more controlled ride than expected from a 4x4.”
A thing worth mentioning is that the South Korean manufacturer aimed to make the new Sorento a better vehicle for regular roads while maintaining the off-road abilities. As a result, the car is offered with more economical engines, as well as with several features especially addressed to those who prefer to drive the Sorento on-road.
The United Kingdom will be the first market to get the refreshed Sorento in February 2010. Pricing details, as well as the full list of specifications, are expected to be revealed ahead of the Frankfurt Auto Show next month.
