2010 Kia Sorento First Official Photo

It seems like launching a bunch of teasers ahead of an important auto event just to cause a stir among car enthusiasts has become a trend in the automotive industry as more and more companies adopt this strategy this year. South Korean automaker Kia today unveiled the first teaser-like official photo of the 2010 Sorento, an image which actually suggests only a few things about the new model.

More importantly, the manufacturer will showcase the redesigned Sorento at the Geneva Auto Show next month so expect to find out more details about the car just before the start of the show.

As you can see for yourself in the adjacent photo, the 2010 variant is partially identical to the current version, but also incorporates several upgrades that differentiate the two models. For example, it may seem like the 2010 Sorento is a bit larger compared to the old edition.

But according to thecarblogger.net, the main attraction of the new Sorento will be actually represented by the engine configurations it will offer. The Korean market will receive a 2.4-liter petrol unit, a 2.7-liter LPI and/or a 2.2-liter turbodiesel, the source wrote. The turbodiesel unit is said to provide advanced fuel economy and very low emissions, with maximum power of 200 PS and 321 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy goes as much as 33 mpg in combined mode.

On the other hand, the American Sorento will be equipped with either a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder or a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 270 horsepower. The new Sorento is set to be manufactured in Georgia, USA, at Kia’s new West Point-based facility. There’s no word on the launch date but the Korean Sorento is due to go on sale in April.
