Kia has just released pricing details for the 2010 Forte compact sedan, with the cheapest model available from $13,695. Overall, the car will be offered in a choice of three versions, LX, EX and SX, with prices ranging between $13,695 and going as high as $17,195.
Both Forte LX and EX rely on a 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine that generate a maximum power of 156 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque. The SX on the other hand is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit that produces 173 horsepower, "more powerful and with better fuel economy than the Mazda3 and Corolla XRS," as Kia emphasized in a release. There will be a choice of four transmissions, as it follows: a standard five-speed manual and an optional four-speed automatic for LX and EX while the SX gets either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic with Sportmatic.
In terms of figures, the 2.0-liter unit achieves 25 and 34 mpg in city and highway modes respectively while the 2.4-liter configuration goes around 22 and 32 mpg when mated to the six-speed manual transmission. Paired with the five-speed automatic, this engine reaches ratings of 23 and 31 mpg. Kia also released a Fuel Economy Package available for the EX 2.0-liter - five-speed automatic transmission, Motor Drive Power Steering (MPDS), “smart” alternator, silica tires and aero enhancements - which further improves fuel efficiency to 27 and 36 mpg.
There are several standard features available, as it follows: front active headrests, dual advanced front airbags, front seat-mounted and side curtain airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, side impact door beams, front and rear crumple zones, four-wheel disc brakes with an Antilock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BAS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a Traction Control System (TCS), and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
