2010 Kia Forte Koup Launched in New York

Kia Motors America yesterday debuted the Forte Koup at the 2009 New York International Auto Show, a two-door coupe passenger car that first saw daylight at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. The Koup is based on the KOUP concept presented to the world at the 2008 North American International Auto Show.

In terms of exterior styling, the car incorporates wrapped tail lights, dual exhaust outlets and rear diffuser while the EX trim adds body-color bumpers, power heated outside mirrors and 16-inch alloy wheels. Furthermore, SX brings 17-inch alloy wheels and P215/45R17-sized premium tires.

The whole range will be offered in a choice of two engines, a 2.0-liter unit producing 156hp (115kW) and installed on the EX trim and a 2.4-liter straight-four configuration generating 173hp (127kW) and 168 pound-feet of torque for the higher-spec SX. Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, this particular unit achieves fuel consumption ratings of 22 mpg in city and 32 mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual and an optional 4-speed automatic transmission are also available.

Other feature highlights include Bluetooth connectivity, iPod, USB, a standard six-speaker audio system, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, ABS, electronic stability control and at least four airbags on the cheapest version.

"On the heel of the introductions of the Soul and Forte sedan, Forte Koup represents the next exciting step in the transformation of Kia design and offers a blend of sporty and emotional appeal," said Michael Sprague, vice president, marketing, KMA. "We believe our new design evolution coupled with standard Kia value and safety features will continue to attract customers to the Kia brand."
