The Porsche Cayenne entered the budding SUV market to mixed reviews back in 2002. Although it did many amazing things in terms of both luxury and performance, it's not well remembered today. This could be down to its styling, which we would call ugly.
In fact, the cost of repairing such a complex vehicle is what keeps many people away from 1st-gen ownership. However, it's not like 911 parts are cheap, and people gobble those timeless machines up like crazy.
In an attempt to examine the flaws of the original Cayenne, YouTube car designer TheSketchMonkey decided to push the SUV a bit further back in time. Why? Well, because it's an interesting rendering idea, plus it means the headlights can diverge from the "fried eggs" design seen on the 996 generation of the 911.
Yeah, sure, the front end of the Cayenne looks a little... runny. But many of those features are still with us today, and Porsche sure did sell a lot of those early models. Whichever way you look at it, redesigning this kind of classic will be tricky.
Photoshop clone brush in hand, the artist sets about merging the 993 Series front end with the body of a 2021 Cayenne. And with Cyberpunk music blasting in the background, the German SUV rapidly goes full-retro. We do agree that round headlights give this design a very timeless quality and might have even turned the model into a collectible in about a decade.
The more we think about it, the more we realize what an amazing year 1995 was. Japanese sports cars like the Supra and RX-7 were amazing, DVDs replaced the VHS tape, Toy Story and Braveheart came out, while people danced to the Macarena. However, as far as SUVs from that era are concerned, we'd still pick a Range Rover Classic over whatever is in this rendering. What's your favorite car of that year?
