Historic automobiles specialist Coys will offer at auction two very special vehicles previously owned by famous people. A '72 Ferrari Dino 246GT, which was puschased new by Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, as well as Tazio Nuvolari's 1950 Cisitalia Abarth 204 A Spyder are slated to go under the hammer in Monaco on May 9th.
Let's start with the rock star's ride. The Dino 206 and 246 are Ferrari's first V6-engined models. Barely 4,000 units were built between 1968 - 1974, making the Dino a very rare and much coveted collectible among Prancing Horse aficionados.

The British rock and roll star bought this silver example of the breed back in 1972 from a California-based dealership, keeping it until 1986. In his fourteen years of ownership, Keith Richards clocked only 25,000 miles aboard his prized Ferrari. Since the Rolling Stones guitarist sold it in 1986, the vehicle spent an extended period in a prestigious Japanese collection.

Dino aside, the lucky winning bidder will also get a letter from Stones’ manager Alan Dunn confirming Richards' ownership and mileage up until April 1986. Chris Routledge, managing partner at Coys, said: “A Dino offered at no reserve is rare enough in itself and would make this is a highly desirable and collectible item in its own right, but when one adds to this proven long-term ownership by rock and roll aristocracy, the Keith Richards's car has to be the ultimate Dino and will surely give any car collector and rock enthusiast a great 'Satisfaction'!”

The classic vehicle lot at Coys' Monaco auction will offer another very interesting proposition for classic car enthusiasts and full-fledged collectors. Specifically, a 1950 Cisitalia Abarth 204 A Abarth Spyder driven by a man once described by Ferdinand Porsche as "the greatest driver of the past, the present, and the future."

Also known as "Il Mantovano Volante" (The Flying Mantuan), Tazio Nuvolari was a highly acclaimed motorcycle and race car driver of Italian origin. He won Grand Prix events, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as rallies such as the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio, driving for Alfa Corse, Auto Union, Bugatti, Maserati, Scuderia Ferrari and even MG.

As for the Cisitalia Abarth 204 A Spyder, it's known that Nuvolari raced this one of four cars ever made two times in 1950. First, he raced it in the April 2nd Targa Florio, where he was sidelined by transmission failure, and then a week later in the April 10th Palermo Monte Pellegrino hillclimb, where he brought it home first in the 1100cc class. Unfortunately, it was the final race of Tazio's overwhelmingly diverse and successful career.

Designed by Giovanni Savonuzzi with botticella style Spyder Corsa coachwork crafted by Carrozzeria Rocco Motto, the historic two seat racer is estimated to sell for anything between €1,400,000 ($1,934,000) - €1,800,000 ($2,487,000).

“A car with splendid appearance, impeccable history and tailored to the requirements of “The Flying Mantuan”, Tazio Nuvolari, by a master of Italian speed, Carlo Abarth," Routledge described the vehicle. "Likely to be one of the most historically important sport racing cars, this may be the only opportunity to acquire this icon at auction.”
