In addition to the $1 million 2015 Corvette Z06 Coupe, another first retail production Chevrolet was sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach. The winning bidder paid no less than $500,000 for the VIN No. 1 2015 Camaro Z/28. Earlier this year, the first 2014 Camaro Z/28 was auctioned for a slightly larger $650,000.
That half-million dollars will come in handy for the AARP Foundation (formally known as the American Association of Retired Persons) and its Drive to End Hunger campaign. Drive to End Hunger efforts address seniors over 50 through cash grants, SNAP enrollment support, meal donations, cash donations and general outreach.

As for what the winning bidder bought for that cool half-million, let's start with what's under the hood. The Z/28 has the most powerful normally aspirated production small block V8 ever made, pumping out 505 horsepower and 481 lb-ft (652 Nm) of torque and redlining at 7,000 rpm. Titanium intake valves and connecting rods coupled with a forged-steel crankshaft make the LS7 engine incredibly robust.

Even the Chevrolet bowtie badge on the front grille is hollowed in order to increase the airflow going to the intakes. The fastest street-legal production Camaro ever built is offered exclusively as a coupe and was developed jointly with Corvette Racing. All four corners of the Z/28 are equipped with lightweight, forged aluminum wheels wrapped in massive Pirelli PZero Trofeo 305/30ZR19 tires. The 2014 model year Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 has a starting price tag of $75,000 and blitzes 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

As a big "Thank you!" from General Motors, Barrett-Jackson and the AARP Foundation, the winning bidder will get to choose what color his car will be delivered in: Red Hot, Silver Ice Metallic, Summit White, Black or Ashen Gray Metallic.
