Peugeot did not have any interesting new production cars to show at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but they did reveal a new concept car called the Fractal.Painted white with black accents, this sexy two-door, has no chance of making it into production but pleases the eye in a sci-fi kind of way.
The Fractal is the perfect expression of the Peugeot spirit, a four-wheel incarnation of a wind lion in the prime of its life. It exudes confidence, thanks to a compact design with muscular lines.
So what's it all about? Well, the guys at Peugeot say the cabin has been designed to play with one of your senses that's crucial to the driving experience: sound.
Up to 80% of the passenger compartment has been created using 3D printing technology. Everything was computer- designed to amplify the sense of aural emotion the driver experiences while behind the wheel. If you want something to shout about, know that the Fractal’s main selling point comes from its 9.1.2 sound system that looks to be fit for competition at the Essen Tuning Show.
Sitting just 3.8m long, and 1.7m wide, the Fractal is a roadster that reminds many of the Mazda Miata. All the body panels look like they were sculpted from rock, but the Fractal is a featherweight, tipping the scales at just one ton.
Just like the Onyx, SR-1, EX1 and RC concepts that came before it, the Fractal is a green car. Its 19-inch wheels and skinny tires are motivated by an electric motor with just over 200 horsepower. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes 6.8 seconds while the total battery range is comparable to anything the Germans promise.
We got the chance to admire other new Peugeot models in Frankfurt, including the 270 horsepower version of the 308 GTi and 308 HYbrid R and Quartz. They're all lovely, but there Peugeot production models and concepts are starting to look too different.
