The classic Brabus recipe - take a powerful AMG model and give it ridiculous amounts of power and an aggressive, black exterior - seems out of place in the case of Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4². Or does it?
The Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4² was created as the ultimate off-road machine, a substitute for the limited edition Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6, but that's not to say it isn't a style icon as well.

Sitting high on its huge wheels and relying on a V8 engine for power, the Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4² will surely continue to be a hit among those who like their cars big and unapologetic.

With the Brabus B40 - 500 PowerXtra performance kit, the 3-tonne behemoth from Mercedes-Benz gets a welcome boost in power without requiring any physical modifications to the engine itself. Thanks to a recalibration of the electronic boost pressure control and remapped injection and ignition, the Brabus G500 4x4² now develops 500hp and 523lb-ft (710 Nm), an increase of 78hp and 74lb-ft (100 Nm) over the standard Mercedes-Benz model.

Given the car's size, weight, and shape, you'd think it's not the fastest out there. And you'd be right, but it's still damn right fast: 0-62mph (0-100 km/h) takes just 6.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 130mph (210 km/h) to protect the off-road tires. And everybody else's hearing, as we very well know what a hubbub this type of rubber makes when riding on asphalt.

Speaking of noise, I feel I should mention the new chromed exhaust system with butterfly valves that will only push the decibels even higher.

While 6.9 seconds isn't that impressive even for a hot hatch, I'm sure seeing this colossus sprint to 62mph is more spectacular than watching any other hypercar you can think of doing it.

Styling wise, the Brabus G500 4x4² gets the mandatory black paint, a perforated skid pad underneath the new radiator grille with the Brabus logo and a bonnet featuring a scoop. The rear gets an equally rugged look with a similar skid plate, something we've not really accustomed to seeing on a Brabus vehicle.

The interior is unmistakably Brabus, with black quilted leather, black Alcantara headlining, carbon fiber inserts and red stitching. The Brabus G500 4x4² will make its way to Frankfurt where it will be displayed alongside Brabus' usual suspects where it will probably prove to be a black highlight in a sea of black cars.
