Mercedes-Benz Teases Out-of-the-Blue Mysterious Concept Heading Over to Frankfurt

It seems Mercedes-Benz isn't content with all the new models it will be premiering at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, and feels the need to throw in a concept as well.

All we get to see right now is a fracture of the concept's rear end. There's the rear window, the Mercedes-Benz logo just to make sure we don't forget what brand this corner of a car belongs to, a red strip that could be the third brake light (or something performing the same function) and the name of the concept written underneath it.

At a first glance, the name is pretty unimaginative: "Concept IAA". IAA is the abbreviation for the German name of the Frankfurt Motor Show (Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung), but in this case, it could also stand for something else.

Mercedes-Benz hasn't made any comments on the nature of this concept, so it's up for debate, but we're pretty sure it will have a lot to do with two things: electric propulsion and autonomous driving.

That's why some people suggest IAA could stand for Intelligent Autonomous Automobile, and we have to say that even if that weren't Mercedes-Benz's intention, it would make a pretty good name. A lot better than the F 015 Luxury in Motion, that's for sure.

Speaking of the F 015 Luxury in Motion concept, that was built to showcase Mercedes' view of future motoring, featuring enough futuristic technologies to keep any geek happy for months.

We wouldn't be surprised if this Concept IAA takes all that a step further by wrapping it into a much more conventional body - but not so mundane as to now be worthy of the 'concept' name.

And it would make a lot of sense. Recently, Mercedes-Benz has semi-officially announced it is building a direct rival for Tesla's Model S, and Daimler AG CEO, Dieter Zetsche, also commented on the company's ambitions to work together with Apple or Google on expanding the technological possibilities once inside the car, but only with the Germans as equal partners.

Mercedes-Benz has very big ambitions, planning to become the best selling premium brand by 2020 and to spearhead the advancement in autonomous driving. This Concept IAA we'll get to see in a few days is probably going to give us a better idea on how it plans to achieve these self-imposed goals.
