Lexus CT 200h Gets Five-star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

Lexus is really keen on safety so it should come as no surprise that the CT 200h got to marks in the most recent Euro NCAP tests results that were released today. The hybrid was also top of its class in some fields, scoring 94 percent protection rating for adults, a result that was matched but not exceeded by the Volvo V60.

The Lexus hatchback also did well in the child protection and safety assist departments, but its Achilles heal was the poor pedestrian rating. The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal impact, while knee airbags for the driver and passenger provided good protection to the knees and femurs.

Maximum points were scored in the side barrier impact, with all body regions being well protected. In the more severe side pole impact, chest protection was rated as marginal, based on dummy readings of rib deflections.

Both three-year and 18 month dummies were well protected, the car scoring 11.9 and 11.2 points respectively, out of a maximum total of 12.

The bumper provided good protection to pedestrians' legs, scoring maximum points in Euro NCAP's tests. However, the front edge of the bonnet was poor in nearly all of the areas tested.

Electronic Stability Control is standard equipment on the CT200h and met Euro NCAP's requirements. A seatbelt reminder system is provided as standard for the driver, front passenger and rear seats.

The model tested is equipped with the 1.8-liter hybrid powerplant. It was specked in the 'Comfort' grade and has a five-door hatchback configuration.
