As British order books for the Cherokee open this week, Jeep announced the UK pricing list of the all-new mid-size American SUV. £25,495 will buy you the entry-level front-wheel drive model, while the top-of-the-range Limited 170 Automatic 4x4 will set you back a hefty £35,695.
Customers will have an initial choice of two 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engines, while the top-spec 3.2-litre V6 Pentastar petrol motor will join the range later this year. The 2.0-litre Fiat-sourced diesels come in two power versions - one that generates 140 horsepower and 350 Nm and a more powerful version that delivers 170 horsepower but has the same amount of torque. Both are equipped with Start/Stop technology.
The range-topping 3.2-litre Pentastar V6 churns out 272 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque. Only the entry-level Euro-spec Jeep Cherokee will get a six-speed manual transmission as standard. The 170 and 272 horsepower models will come with Chrysler's all-new nine-speed automatic, which promises to keep things smooth and also help with fuel economy.
Buyers will be able to opt between front-wheel and all-wheel drive, and a choice of three levels of trim. The Longitude model features body-coloured door mirros, LED tail lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual zone climate control, Bluetooth connectivity for your smartphone, DAB radio, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and rear parking sensors. The intermediate Longitude+ adds a Uconnect media centre controlled via an 8.4-inch touchscreen, that comes with satellite navigation, voice recognition and a nine speakers audio system.
The highly specified 2.0-litre Limited 170 Automatic 4x4 model features bi-xenon headlamps, a power tailgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather seats, eight-way power driver’s seat, front and rear park assist with back-up camera, automatic headlights and rain sensors, Wireless Phone Charging pad,and keyless Enter ‘n’ Go.
The future V6-powered Trailhawk version is said to offer best-in-class off-road capability, distinctive looks, a suspension lift kit and special off-road equipment including Jeep’s Active Drive Lock system and a rear-axle disconnect feature.
“Cherokee has always been – and still is – an important car in the Jeep line-up, and we’re delighted now to be able to reveal the highly competitive prices of this stunning latest version,” declared Damien Dally, head of the Jeep brand in the UK. “It is up against some tough competition in its sector but Jeep is the original ‘Go Anywhere, Do Anything’ brand, and we are confident that we can offer an attractive package at exceptional value-for-money prices to keep it at the front of our potential customers’ minds.”
