Boy, it's been a long time since we were so excited about what Honda is doing. After an updated Accord and all-new Civic sedan, they're now working on the 2-door coupe model as well. It should be quite sexy, not to mention very fast.
It will take at least a few more months until Honda is ready with the 2016 Civic Coupe. But we already have a rough idea of what to expect. That's because they, bless their hearts, provided us with an awesome preview concept at the beginning of the year.
If that doesn't cut it, we now have a fresh set of renderings created by Wild-Speed for CivicX forum. We've been following this graphic designer for many years, and he does great work, this being no exception. From the sharp headlights to the rear wing, everything about the new Si Coupe is gorgeous.
Like a boy racer's wet dream, this toy is equipped with a black mesh grille and tinted headlights. Large diameter wheels cover red Brembo brakes, and the rear diffuser is yet another go-fast component.
But the big unknown is what engine will power the 2015 Civic Si Coupe. Currently, a 2.4-liter with 205 horsepower resides under the bonnet and it ain't much. When you pay $23,000 for one of these bad boys, you can't help wonder if a turbocharged Ford Focus ST would have been a better choice.
Honda now has one of those engines as well. It went into the European Civic Type R hatchback and made minced meat of its competitors on the Nurburgring track. We know the same 2-liter VTEC Turbo will go into a US-spec car, but we don't know which one.
The EU-spec Civic offers a little over 300 horsepower (they measure things differently over there). However, we'd be more than happy if the Civic Si Coupe packs about 250 hp and the best 6-speed manual in the business.
