A joyride turned into a police chase for a 12-year-old girl from Texas. Last week, an unnamed girl “borrowed” her grandmother’s car and went for a ride with her younger sister.
Their grandmother noticed the disappearance of the two girls, along with her car, and called 911 to announce the situation, fearing the worst - a kidnapping.

A police officer from the Conroe Police Department spotted the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze in traffic, and flagged the driver to pull over.

After refusing to follow the officer’s orders, the 12-year-old girl started a police chase that lasted for almost 40 miles (64 kilometers), and her five-year-old sister was right beside her, terrified.

In an incredibly lucky turn of events, the pursuit ended without any fatalities or injuries. As the police dash cam revealed, the 12-year-old girl drove on the wrong side of the road, squeezed between vehicles driving in the opposite lane, and rode the shoulder of the opposite side of the road.

At a point during the high-speed police chase, officers were driving at 124 mph (200 km/h) while attempting to follow the young driver. Luck only went so far as nobody was injured, but multiple vehicles were hit, and damages quickly added up. Fortunately for all involved, the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze that was being driven without a license or permission featured General Motors’ OnStar service.

Police officers notified the call center for OnStar, which promptly limited power and shut down the vehicle without eliminating its safety features. The car ultimately rolled to a stop, and police officers were able to take the 12-year-old driver into custody. Her sister was picked up by her grandmother, and was brought home, ABC 13 News reports.

Along with driving without a license, speeding, failing to pull over when requested by the police, running red lights, theft of property, the 12-year-old girl is facing a fine of around $30,000, along with the possibility of a sentence in a juvenile detention center. Some claim the 12-year-old girl wanted to visit her boyfriend, but the report is yet to be confirmed.
