Police Emergency Drive Through Busy City Ends in Predictable Disaster

Police run through town ends badly 1 photo

Even though I haven't worked one second as a policeman in my life, I would assume that responding to an "officer in need of assistance" call is a rightful priority for everyone in the force.
It means one of your own might be in danger, and officers tend to stick up for each other. Admittedly, it usually means that there are only ten police officers and one unarmed bad guy lying on the floor, and so they need ten more to cuff him and take him to jail, but you can't take any chances. Who knows, maybe this time it's serious.

That's why we can see officer Fion Taylor running away from the donut shop (sorry, I don't mean to encourage any stereotypes, but that's what it looks like) and hurrying towards her squad car, closely followed by another officer in a second car. But we won't see her again because the whole clip is filmed from Officer Taylor's dashcam. And unless she was a professional NASCAR driver or something, there's no way that another woman was going to get in front of her.

Let's just get this out of the way: for almost the whole duration of the video, there's going to be an incessant heavy breathing. We don't know whether it's from the short sprint towards the car at the beginning or from the driving itself, but it's kind of worrying. Police officers are supposed to be in good physical shape, and this doesn't show anything even remotely close to that.

The mad run takes place on the streets of Seattle, Washington, and it's a prime example why you should always pay maximum attention and reduce speed whenever you hear a siren wail. Officer Taylor does drive recklessly, but she's on a mission, so she's allowed to. This isn't the first time she's been involved in an accident either, having hit a cyclist before. Judging by the way she cuts traffic on the bicycle lanes, that's not very hard to imagine.

It has to be said, though, that neither then nor now was she at fault. For all the dangerous maneuvers, in the end it's an oblivious driver who causes the accident. She does appear to do more damage trying to avoid him and crashing into a second car that was pulled over on the side of the road, but that's easy to judge now, away from the heat of the moment.

Well, maybe the end is a bit anti-climatic, but at least the rest of the clip leading up to the collision gives us a very good view of what it's like to drive a police cruiser with the sirens on. It's both scary and thrilling, I guess, just like most things worthwhile in life.
