The Z71 moniker is no mystery to any enthusiast of General Motors’ pickup truck lineup. At the present moment, Z71 is an off-road package available for a suite of models such as the full-size Silverado and the mid-size Colorado, joined by the Tahoe and more commodious Suburban full-size sport utility vehicles.
American automotive companies have been filing a lot of trademarks with the United States Patent and Tradermark Office lately. Ford Motor Company filed for AV8R and Aviator recently, with General Motors following suit by applying for a mysterious Z71 Trail Boss trademark.
As pointed out by GM Authority, Z71 Trail Boss has been filed on January 14th, carrying serial number 86503140. The registration also mentions that this mark will be used by General Motors for “Passenger vehicles, namely, light-duty pickup trucks.”
The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab Short Box with the 4.3-liter V6 and 2WD boasts with a GVWR of 6,900 lbs (3,130 kg), while the same configuration with the 6.2-liter V8 and 4WD is rated 7,200 pounds (3,265 kilograms), so go figure where this Z71 Trail Boss trademark will be going. The mid-size Colorado truck is also a potential candidate, but only time will tell us what’s what.
Don’t expect a direct rival for the 2017 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor though...

By mentioning light-duty pickup trucks, it’s easy to understand how this trademark will be used in the near future.
