Your Helmet Has a Visor For A Reason, Use It

Stuff like this and even a lot worse happens every day, yet there are riders out there preferring to ride with open face helmets or those brain-cap jokes. This rider here learned his lesson, though.
Sometimes, heat or fogginess makes riders open their lid to let some air in, especially around the city where the low speed isn’t ramming as much air into the helmet as it’s needed.

But being on city streets doesn’t mean you should let your guard down... or visor up for the matter. There still are a lot of things that can hit your face, starting with bugs and ending with water.

For the guy here, it was water, which got splashed into his face by a car he was riding in tandem with. Luckily, the water jet didn’t make him panic or lose his balance and safely came to a stop at the next intersection.

But for a beginner rider, this could be a serious reason to crash into something. Not having an eye formed to scan the road ahead for any dangers, combined with the shock of getting hit by something suddenly and maybe some dirty water in the eye sounds like a recipe for disaster when on two wheels.

Water or pebbles are not the only things that can hit your face. I was once riding near a park in the city and opened my visor to let some fresh air in. Instead, I got a frigging bee in my face which started walking all over my mouth and chin.

My attention was instantly shifted to the damn insect, and my only thoughts were about getting stung in the face. I rode about half a mile with my brain being on auto-pilot like that and stopped when I realized what I’m doing to let the bee out.
