Right now, it's that time of the year when automotive accountants do the tally for the second quarter sales and half-year deliveries. And believe it or not, the sixth-gen Chevy Camaro is hitting a surprising zenith right at its twilight!
As we all know, the Dodge Charger and Challenger in ICE-powered form will be no more after the 2023 model year and seven 'Last Call' special editions, while the Chevy Camaro nameplate will also go into retirement following a range-wide Collector's Edition and the 56 units of the Garage 56 ZL1 special limited series. All that commotion sure made them a lot more desirable to folks aiming to secure a traditional piece of pony and muscle car history. But we are not here to talk about the modern 'Maro. Instead, one of this fortunate story's protagonists is more like a bonkers-modified third-gen (1982-1992).

Alas, even though this is a quarter-mile dragstrip happening, and although the feisty Chevy muscle car won the skirmish, the day's hero was its losing rival. So, here's the background first. The videographer behind the Jmalcom2004 account on YouTube usually dabbles around lesser-known racetracks that don't necessarily use modern ET and trap speed scoreboards but rather indulge in the so-called grudge race format where all that matters is the victory, not the times or miles per hour.

One of his main venues is the Jeffersonville-based Middle Georgia Motorsports Park, and that's where this encounter took place between a host of well-prepared racers. In one lane stood the menacing Chevy Camaro, and in the other, an equally dark and mysterious Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that felt turbocharged and fully equipped with a humongous bottle of nitrous judging by the decidedly long pre-race spray!

Obviously, we had high hopes that this brawl – which was most likely of the 1/8-mile format, not the longer quarter-mile variety – would be one for the ages. Well, it was, but not in the sense of a nail-biting victory. Instead, early on during the race's first stage, something terrible happened with the S-10, and the driver lost control for a moment with the mighty pickup truck veering directly toward its adversary. Luckily, the other Chevy managed to pass, and then the S-10 miraculously (or skillfully) stopped just inches away from the wall.

Interestingly, the pickup truck driver turned out to be a very nice, young, blonde lady – and she looked unharmed, albeit a little stunned by the near miss. By the way, in attendance was also a great-looking Nissan Z with a turbo twist, and it's sure worth a look-see, too. As such, we embedded second below a quick look at how savage the 'Devil Z' feels when running (oh-so-fast) down the dragstrip!
