ChatGPT is changing the software world bit by bit, and it's now Google Maps' turn to get a massive overhaul powered by artificial intelligence.
While Google is still working on integrating ChatGPT-inspired features in the navigation app (and I'm certain it is only a matter of time until this happens), an AI startup came up with a plugin whose purpose is to change the way we interact with Google Maps.

MixerBox announced ChatMap, a ChatGPT plugin that sports Google Maps API integration for a more natural conversational experience with the navigation app.

Currently available in the beta stage, ChatMap works exactly as you'd expect a ChatGPT-powered Google Maps version to work. The plugin allows you to chat with Google Maps to require very specific navigation directions and routes. If the plugin is connected with other software from the same company, the experience is greatly upgraded with even more capabilities.

By default, ChatMap allows you to request routes according to your preferences. For example, you can tell the plugin to generate a route that includes light traffic and includes a shopping center so you can buy groceries. In another example, you can request a route to pick up the kids from school and then, on your way home, add a stop at an ice cream shop.

MixerBox Weather can significantly improve this experience by adding the forecast and the current weather conditions to the conversation.

For instance, you can ask for the weather forecast, and if it's sunny, search for a location for a picnic. At the same time, you can request the plugin to "see if it's raining later today, and if it is, find a playground inside a shopping center to take my kids to."

Given it integrates the Google Maps API, the plugin searches for routes and then configures the navigation to the destination. It makes the route planning a lot more convenient, allowing you to add as many requests and specifications to the request as desired, letting ChatGPT-powered technology do the hard work for you. You can combine as many commands, stops, and requests as you want.

In the case of long journeys, the plugin comes in handy when setting up the road trip by generating routes with the places you want to visit. You can use a command like "find me a route to Prague that includes a stop at the zoo and a place to eat with at least a 4-star rating on Google. Then look for a hotel that costs $100 per night."

The new plugin is already available for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, but as said, it's still in the beta stage, with the stable version expected to come with additional polishing and perhaps new capabilities.
