Yeti Returns Home

As announced since this summer, the Skoda Yeti has made its way into India and plans to have a field day in the country. Some 1,000 customers are already awaiting their Yetis, which has become perhaps the most anticipated Skoda model in the region.

The car is manufactured by using around 10 percent parts produced locally. The plan is to sell around 400 or 500 units each month, which would mean the Czech carmaker is some two months ahead of schedule.

"This is the most affordable and value for money SUV in the Indian market," Skoda Auto India board member and director for sales & marketing told just.auto.com. “Our target is to sell about 400-500 Yetis monthly."

The Yeti is only the first of the new line of models which Skoda plans to bring to India in the years to come. The launch of the Yeti will be followed by the introduction of the Fabia facelift in December.

In 2011, a premium sedan built on Volkswagen Vento's platform will replace the Octavia, followed later in the year by a car even smaller than the Fabia. The most likely to succeed model on the Indian market is the Fabia, a model which has experienced a strong growth in the April-May period (sales doubled to 1,025 units).

“We are quite confident that the new Fabia will clock monthly sales of over 1,000 units,” added Kuehl, hinting at Skoda's target of snatching, on behalf of the mother group Volkswagen, 10 percent of the Indian market share in the next five years.
