In the very generous range of Yamaha motorcycles, the MT family occupies a very special place, and that's obvious from the name, as MT stands for nothing other than Master of Torque. Introduced in 2005 as an offering in the standard and naked segments, the range is presently offered in no less than eight models. And at the top of them all is the MT-10 SP.
This particular two-wheeler, born in 2016 as a European-offering only, is described by its maker as the King of MT. It's also the first production motorcycle in the world to have been offered with an Ohlins 6-mode electronically controlled spool valve suspension.

Making it the King of MT is of course the engine Yamaha hid in the frame. That would be a liquid-cooled 4-stroke unit, 997cc in displacement and capable of delivering 164 hp and 112 Nm of torque. And making it stand out in the crowd is of course the way it looks, aggressive and naked.

All of that can be had in full-size form for the equivalent of about $18,000, but a much cheaper, scale, and toy version of the bike will become available starting August 1. It is then when Danish toy company LEGO will launch the Yamaha MT-10 SP as part of its Technic series.

The item comes in 1/5 scale and can be assembled by carefully placing together no less than 1,478 small pieces of plastic bricks. Designed for adults only, the set comes together to form a bike measuring 9.5 inches (25 cm) high, 17.5 inches (44 cm) long, and 5.5 inches (15 cm) wide.

As with most other LEGO Technic builds, the Yamaha is heavily inspired by the real-life object, to the point it replicates many of the motorcycle's attributes, including the thing's engine and 3-speed transmission.

To give you an idea of what that means it's enough to say both these pieces of hardware have been faithfully reproduced, with the transmission for instance coming complete with a shift drum, shift fork, gear shift ring and ratchet drum. According to Yamaha, the "gears and sliding components reproduce realistic movements," making the scale bike a real treat.

The bike can be put together the old fashion way, by following written instructions, but also with the help of the LEGO Builder app. Separately, the LEGO AR app allows anyone to enjoy the motorcycle in a virtual fashion as well.

The LEGO Technic Yamaha MT-10 SP is not yet available for purchase, but when it becomes so more than a month from now it will retail for $239,99. That's a price small enough to ensure the naked Japanese gets to be displayed in plenty of homes on either of the two stands it comes with.
