Xiaomi is one of the tech giants that are pouring billions into a very ambitious automotive expansion, and unlike rival Apple, the company wants to launch its first product in the first half of the decade.
With the Xiaomi Car already on the radar, the Chinese tech behemoth is now working on last-minute details, including how much the vehicle is going to cost when it becomes available for purchase.

Changchun Faway Automobile Components recently revealed that the price quotation for Xiaomi's first car model is almost set in stone, though no further specifics have been shared. Faway says Xiaomi is now involved in business discussions with a series of partners, but the "pricing for Xiaomi's first car model has been completed."

Xiaomi plans to conduct additional summer and winter testing this year, while the public unveiling will take place in the first half of 2024.

If everything goes according to the plan, the first Xiaomi Car should be on the road by the end of the next year.

Considering no official pricing information has been disclosed, we'll have to rely on the rumor mill for such information. Of course, we shouldn’t take anything for granted, but speculation has it that the first Xiaomi model could be priced at approximately 149,900 yuan (close to $21,000). The base model would sport a single electric motor and run on a rear-wheel drive configuration. It would provide an 800-kilometer (500-mile) range per charge and a heavy focus on technology, with deep smartphone integration. Android Auto is very likely to be offered, given Xiaomi is a top Android device maker, but chances are the Chinese tech company would also develop its own screen mirroring system for the car.

The company also plans to launch a Pro version of the Xiaomi Car to offer upgraded performance. However, the vehicle would sport a range of just 700 kilometers (less than 450 miles) per a single charge. On the other hand, the car could be fitted with two electric motors and offer all-wheel-drive support.

Rival Apple is also developing an electric vehicle, but in this case, the unveiling wouldn’t take place earlier than 2026. Apple is focusing heavily on self-driving capabilities, though the first model is expected to come with major limitations. A fully autonomous vehicle is expected towards the end of the decade, with Xiaomi also believed to be exploring a similar release within the same timeframe.

Xiaomi has so far remained tight-lipped on the launch date and the pricing, so a healthy pinch of salt is definitely recommended for now, as all these details could change overnight if something doesn’t go as planned. More information, however, is expected later this year when the company concludes additional testing.
