Wolpert Becomes Head of VW Group Product Management

The Volkswagen Group announced that Klaus-Gerhard Wolper, who currently holds the Porsche Cayenne manager position, has been appointed head of the product planning and management of the Group.

The executive takes over from Matthias Muller, with the move becoming effective on October 1, 2010. As the company has previously announced, Muller will become the Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG, with the executive filling in his new position on the same date. Muller was responsible of product management, product planing and model series for both the VW brand and the entire Group.

The move comes to show that the entities inside the VW Group are strengthening their bonds - it seems like the Porsche VW takeover “war” has been left behind.

Porsche and Volkswagen are continuing to dovetail,” Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, said.

Wolpert started working for Porsche AG in 1984, after becoming an engineer. He was appointed as head of the chassis development department in 1990. Two years after that, he became an assistant at the board of management’s development division. In 1995, he became responsible for Porsche AG’s cooperation projects. The executive took his current role (Porsche Cayenne model series head) in July 1998.

Volkswagen has released an ambitious increase plan earlier this year (this is called “Strategy 2018). The company aims to boost its sales by 60 percent, as well as increase its profit margins by 2018. VW’s final target is to unseat Toyota as the world’s No. 1 automotive producer.
