Why the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster’s Roof Is a Pain

When Lamborghini introduced the Aventador Roadster, the Italians taught us a lesson in relativity. Yes, the new carbon fiber roof is clearly superior to the... umbrella used by the Murcielago Roadster, but it still isn’t good enough. The adjacent image stands as the perfect proof for this.
The pic shows what happens when rain strikes and you don’t happen to have the roof around. As for why would somebody leave the top at home, the answer is simple - when stowed in the supercar’s nose, the two roof panels take up almost all the luggage compartment. The Aventador Roadster isn’t exactly the most spacious of supercars, but when you add the roof to the story, it all becomes too much.

We played with the carbon fiber roof panels during our Aventador Roadster review and we weren’t exactly thrilled. Yes, these don’t require spending time at the gym in order to be handled, but actually placing them inside the trunk is a bit like playing twister with grenades. You have to follow a series of steps while being careful not to scratch anything.

Well, the Aventador Roadster is already out there and there’s nothing we can do about its roof. Nonetheless, Lamborghini is currently working on the Huracan Spyder and we really hope they do the right thing this time.

Unlike the Murcielago Roadster, which came with a manual canvas roof, the Gallardo Spyder featured a power soft top. Still, we’d like to see a foldable hardtop on the Huracan Spyder, something like the Ferrari 458 Spider or McLaren 650S Spider offer.
