Who's Your Mightiest Electric Van? Why, It's the Iveco eDaily, of Course! Wait, What?

An Iveco eDaily zero-emissions commercial van recently towed over 153 tonnes (more than 168 US tons, which is quite impressive) to claim a Guinness World Record title - 'Heaviest weight towed by an electric van.'
We usually do not dabble with too many commercial vehicles – although we occasionally talk about eighteen-wheelers, tour buses, as well as humongous motorhomes. Well, now we have gathered around to discuss a humble Iveco commercial van. Their eDaily, on the other hand, is all set to claim the status of 'fancy,' indeed, after claiming an official Guinness World Records accolade in the United Kingdom.

The title for the 'Heaviest weight towed by an electric van' was recently claimed by a standard all-electric, no fancy-schmancy-looking all-electric Iveco eDaily (3.5 tonnes) van – and that was enough to impress the bejesus out of me to abandon my quest to write about how Japan is getting the chance to pony up around $277k for one of the 17 units of the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4Matic+ Motorsport Collector's Edition. Ups, there you have it; I did write something about it and how its inherent exclusivity makes it one of the most desirable versions of the sport convertible to date!

Anyway, back to the Iveco eDaily that usually deals with groceries or some other form of heavy, commercial-type local transportation (from furniture to spare tires, most likely), this unit was involved more with a 'Strongman' type of feat rather than taking advantage of its "class-leading 3.5-tonne towing capacity and strong truck-based chassis." I'm sure you have seen various strong folks pulling incredible weights simply through sheer will (and lots of training), so it's not going to be surprising how the eDaily did it – there were 153.58 tonnes (169 US tons) rolling behind it – slowly, but steadily.

Oh, and there was also a 'strongman' inside – Adam Bishop, who is recognized as Britain's 'strongest man.' Only that he didn't do any heavy lifting on this case – he just crept with the eDaily for the length of the challenge and then flexed his muscles while he slapped the 'Guinness World Records: Record Holder' bumper sticker on the side of the Iveco van. There were many cheers, of course, and some corner office head honcho declarations on the premises.

But we will not bother you with those because knowing what's behind the vehicle's prowess is infinitely more interesting, at least for me. So, as a quick highlights reminder, the eDaily with RWD and 140 kW plus 400 Nm (188 hp and 295 lb-ft) broke the record set by AWD e-vans previously when it was attached through a custom-designed special towbar to an Iveco X-Way Strator truck loaded with a massive Collard Group earth-mover and itself towing a fully-loaded Iveco X-Way 8x4 tipper truck plus an all-terrain airport fire truck that finally completed the road train!
