You probably read all about Mercedes’s new S-Class Coupe by now and are pretty impressed, right? I know I am. However, something still doesn’t give me peace right now... What’s up with those Swarovski headlamps?
From what I understand, the brilliant minds in Stuttgart decided to offer their customers the chance to buy a car that has 47 Swarovski crystals embedded in the headlamps because ... Because what exactly?

As the press release states, the crystals will be stuck somewhere near the daytime running lights’ LEDs and the turn indicator lamps having absolutely no impact on the performance and visibility of the headlights whatsoever. Does that mean, they’re just for people who like to brag about their wealth? Well done Mercedes! Well done.

In contrast, just two days ago, BMW became the first automaker in the world that started manufacturing laser lights on a production vehicle, the i8, proving that some issues are more important than flashy things.

Actually, the Bavarians proved that, for them, it’s more important to have efficient, safer lighting than some sparkly things in the headlamps (even though it will probably cost you an arm and a leg to get some taste of that engineering). That says a lot about the company and what it stands for. Now... Bring on the hate! If anyone can explain to me the practicality of those crystals and why they are not just for showing off, the comments section is all yours!
