Watch The World’s Only ZR1 Corvette Automatic Go Drag Racing

“A luxury sports car carved of power, performance and prestige,” that’s how Chevrolet describes the ZR1 corvette. It certainly is all those things, except “luxury”. The 638 horsepower 6.2-liter LS9 engine only comes with a six-speed manual gearbox.
However, Howard Tanner, the owner of American tuner Redline committed a “sacrilege” and made fitted the ZR1 with an automatic transmission. We’re not sure what gearbox they used, but it’s got long legs because he only changes three cogs in this drag video. Not only that, but the handcrafted supercharged aluminum motor is now putting out 723 rear wheel horsepower.

Right now, the car is doing the quarter mile in 9.8 seconds at 139 mpg in humid 80 plus degree weather. Once things cool down, and everything is ready, it should be able to go into the eights.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
