Unveiled in April 2023, the long-awaited successor to the 720S recently made its North American dynamic debut. Rather than giving reservation holders a taste of the 750S on the track, McLaren demonstrated the supercar's performance at Sun Valley Tour de Force.
Stefan Johansson, who raced for McLaren in Formula 1 in 1987 after Gerhard Berger took his place at Scuderia Ferrari, took the 750S at speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour. That's a little over 320 clicks for those who prefer the metric system, with Johansson reaching this exhilarating speed on a closed highway.

Pictured in picturesque Sun Valley, Idaho, the 750S is McLaren's lightest series-production car to date. Emphasis on series production because the limited-run Senna is much lighter. It's also the pokiest series-production Macca yet, packing 740 force-fed ponies.

Codenamed M840T, the midship twin-turbo V8 is a torquey engine as well, promising 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) at full chatter. Over in the United States, the British automaker quotes a 0-to-60 acceleration of 2.7 seconds. 124 miles per hour (make that 200 kilometers per hour) takes merely 7.2 seconds. The spider and coupe both top 206 miles per hour (332 kilometers per hour), besting the Artura by a single mile per hour.

On the other hand, bear in mind the Artura features a twin-turbo V6 with plug-in hybrid assistance. It's not as potent (671 horsepower), and it's a heavier vehicle as well (3,303 pounds or 1,498 kilograms compared to 3,062 pounds or 1,389 kilograms). Despite featuring an electric motor within the transmission's bell housing, the Artura's 531 pound-feet (720 Nm) of torque plays second fiddle to the V8-engined sibling.

The Woking-based outfit has recently signed a multi-year contract with Ricardo for next-generation V8 powertrains, including both hybrid and non-hybrid versions. By the end of the decade, the heir apparent of the 750S will certainly switch to a hybridized setup.

Sold out well into 2024 stateside, the mid-engine supercar costs $324,000 in coupe flavor. The spider is $345,000 from the outset, excluding the $5,500 destination charge fee. Customer deliveries in the United States will commence by the end of 2023.

Similar to its predecessor, the 750S also uses a dual-clutch transmission. McLaren says that it's better in every respect, having optimized the gearing and revised the kickdown control strategy. Built around a carbon-fiber monocoque, the 750S features Proactive Chassis Control linked-hydraulic suspension with – get this – softer springs up front and stiffer springs out back.

PCC III is a rather clever and complicated system, for it combines the passive coil springs with semi-active dampers and a hydraulic roll circuit instead of anti-roll bars. McLaren has also made a few changes in order to mitigate bump steer. Pirelli P Zero tires come standard, with Corsas and Trofeo Rs available as options.

Designed for 90-plus-octane dinosaur juice, the new 750S comes with a standard vehicle warranty of three years and no mileage limitation. McLaren further includes a three-year maintenance and service plan. Following this period, owners can purchase extended warranties available in 12- and 24-month flavors.
