Derived from the 570S, the 600LT rolled out in June 2018 with 600 metric ponies to its name. McLaren's third long-tailed vehicle after the 675LT and F1 GTR Longtail has been hit by a safety recall stateside, amounting to 652 examples of the coupe and spider.
A retailer, not McLaren Automotive, identified a risk of coolant leakage during a regular audit back in December 2022. The Woking-based automaker promptly started to investigate warranty claims related to the coolant leakage condition, observing a higher number of claims for the 600LT alleging said issue compared to less exotic versions of the Sports Series.

Engineering subsequently conducted a design analysis, concluding that a radiator joint may allow coolant to leak. More specifically, the outboard right-hand radiator joint between the temperature sensor housing and the hose running from the outboard radiator to the housing is suspected of inadequate sealing. If the car is driven hard, as you'd expect from a 600LT, said joint could lose sealing, therefore causing a coolant leak.

That's not a biggie in and of itself. The problem is, according to McLaren, coolant getting on hot components. The British automaker couldn't rule out the risk of a fire, hence recall number 23V-484 comprising the 2019 and 2020 model year 600LT.

Recalled vehicles were produced in Woking in the period between July 4, 2019 and July 16, 2020. The remedy comes in the form of a replacement coolant hose, temperature sensor housing and clamp with a new hose, temperature sensor housing, and constant pressure clamp. The only redesigned part of the bunch is the constant pressure clamp, whose role is to maintain the seal at the joint.

McLaren hasn't provided a schedule for mailed notifications, but knowing McLaren, each and every owner of the 600LT will be contacted as soon as possible by either customer service or their dealership of choice. In the meantime, owners are recommended to contact McLaren Automotive Incorporated for more information on the recall condition and the remedy.

Bettered by the 570S GT4 racecar-derived 620R, the 600LT distinguishes itself from the 570S in many respects. From nearly 3 inches in extra length to the Senna-like titanium exhaust with rear deck-mounted outlets, P1-inspired seats or available lightweight seats, and a fixed rear wing for slightly more downforce, the 600LT is a McLaren through and through. The coupe was joined by the spider in January 2019, weighing a meager 50 kilos (110 pounds) more than its brother.

Originally priced at £185,500 and £201,500 in the United Kingdom, the limited-run 600LT is a rare breed. Only 345 spiders and 375 coupes were produced for the United States. Total production is believed to be under 1,500 vehicles, making the 600LT rarer than the 765LT (765 coupes and 765 spiders).
