For anyone who thinks that classic car races are just high-speed parade laps, you need to witness the Le Mans Classic. The Le Mans Classic, which took place earlier this month, is an incredible display of automotive racing history at one of the most legendary courses, and Porsche racer Leh Keen helps show that competition is no less fierce than the actual 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In this video, Keen battles Le Mans in a 1974 Porsche RSR 3.0, and while we’re sure the WeatherTech 911 racecar that he currently pilots isn’t exactly cheap, he estimates this particular car to be worth an estimated $1.5 million, at least. Over the span of the 21-minute video, it’s clear that these racers are there to win and not just to show off their timeless (and in some cases priceless) racecars.

As is the case with just about any Le Mans race, there are definitely some pucker moments from Keen’s in-car camera view during the start of the third race. Between the track and the classic racers, there is plenty to appreciate about this video, but the camera angle gives a pretty good view of the rearview mirrors revealing another aspect of the action. The screen grab above is just one of the close calls Keen and 40-year-old racecar encounter, but things get downright hairy in the second chicane along the high-speed Mulsanne Straight. Keen says that his team went on to win their class in the race.

In addition the intense racing action, the video concludes with a good bit of footage from the rainy, nighttime practice. More than 110,000 spectators were on hand to watch the 2014 Le Mans Classic, but you can see some of what the event is all about in Keen’s video posted below.
