Depending on whom you ask, Akira Nakai is either an artist or a vandal. It seems that people either love his wide body Porsche 911 creations or they think it’s a sacrilegious act against one of the most recognizable sports cars on the planet. Regardless of which side of the fence you stand, his Rauh-Welt Begriff 911s evoke passion, and that’s exactly what attracted Porsche racer Leh Keen and his father, McGrath.
While there are plenty of automotive-related, father-son stories out there, it’s almost certain that none are as unique as this one that revolves around a professional racecar driver or a car anything like the RWB 911. For the Keens, it all started years ago when McGrath found a video online of one of Nakai’s car, which Leh had already seen. Eventually, the two generations of Porsche enthusiasts commissioned Nakai to build them their own wide-body creation, and eGarage got a unique peak behind what it took for Nakai to craft the Keen’s RWB 993.

As Leh says in the video, these cars are more than just fender flares on a 911, and it’s pretty amazing to watch Nakai hand-building this car's body and listen to the emotions from Leh and McGrath. In the end, the Keen’s RWB 993 looks like a wide-body 911 racer from the 1970s, which is pretty fitting since Leh is a proven racer behind the wheel of numerous 911s over the years. Leh's level of excitement for this car says even more about Nakai's handywork not to mention the bonding experience McGrath and his son obviously shared during the build.

Love it or hate it, Nakai obviously has a passion for Porsches and he helps other Porschephiles express their own passion. To see some of what went into Nakai’s creation and see (and hear) this car in action, check out the video below.
