Spotify and YouTube Music are great choices if your car has Android Auto, CarPlay, or a simple Bluetooth connection, but if you don't, you still have options to listen to your favorite tunes behind the wheel.
One of the most common is the installation of an aftermarket media receiver, which typically comes with great media options, including Android Auto and CarPlay.

However, if you don't feel like spending hundreds of dollars on such a device and then a bit more for professional installation, you can always get a wireless FM transmitter.

These devices have been around for many years, allowing users to listen to their favorite tunes by setting the FM radio in the vehicle to a specific frequency. You can then stream music to the FM transmitter using Bluetooth, so eventually, all your favorite tunes become available on the head unit and the car's speakers.

Few people know this, but Walmart has its own FM transmitter. Called onn. (I know, I know, but let's not discuss the name right now) the device has just received a massive upgrade courtesy of a partnership between Walmart and Native Voice.

The FM transmitter now supports voice commands, so you can start an application without touching your phone or the transmitter. Commands like "Hey Tunein" and "Hey iHeart" allow users to start listening to their favorite content without interacting with their mobile devices. Additionally, if you want to listen to the weather forecast, you can say, "Hey AccuWeather," thanks to the integration of the Voice AI engine.

Otherwise, onn. remains the same device, offering a convenient way to listen to music without messing with infotainment upgrades.

Of course, you can always use the digital assistant available on your mobile device. Because the content comes from your smartphone, you can refer to Siri on iPhone and Google Assistant on Android to start playing the music or the podcast you want to listen to. The wireless FM transmitter is only in charge of receiving the signal from the mobile device and then forwarding it to the radio system using the selected frequency.

Walmart also offers a remote control with the device. It integrates a microphone for hands-free calling, and, starting with this upgrade, for voice commands.

Walmart's upgraded device can be yours for $29.88.

Meanwhile, you can find similar FM transmitters on the likes of eBay and AliExpress for much lower, though you won't get voice command integration. Worth knowing is that the audio quality of a wireless FM transmitter isn't always the best and doesn't match Bluetooth, Android Auto, or CarPlay. However, for someone who doesn't want to spend a fortune listening to their favorite tunes or a locally stored media library, an FM transmitter is the right gadget that costs less than a new iPhone cable.
