The Volkswagen Group has appointed Skoda’s sales and marketing boss Jurgen Stackmann as chairman of SEAT. Stackmann will replace James Muir, who was given senior management role within the Volkswagen Group.
51-year-old Jurgen Stackman joined the Volkswagen Group in 2010, initially holding responsibility for sales and marketing at Skoda. As of September 1, he took over marketing at the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand.
According to the company, James Muir will leave SEAT starting May 1, 2013 to “assume a senior management function within the Volkswagen Group and report direct to the Board of Management”.
With its global sales down 8.3 percent last year, SEAT is the only money-losing unit in the Volkswagen Group. Three weeks ago, Muir himself said the company needs to double its sales in order to survive and sell near one million vehicles a year to get more investment from Wolfsburg.
