We're happy to let you know about VoloLights, a truly great and innovative gadget meant to reduce the number of rear-end collisions between cars and bikes.
One of the factors which often cause cars to rear-end motorcycles is the fact that some drivers don't realize that the bikes are slowing down unless the brake lights are lit. And since a lot of bikers slow down simply by throttling off or down-shifting, the brake light stay off, thus no visual stimulus alerts the drivers.
VoloLights promises to change things, using an accelerometer which triggers the lights as the bike slows down, even if the brakes are not engaged. In case the brakes are used, the microchip inside the VoloLights makes the LEDs flash 5 times a second, a frequency which draws drivers' attention the most, as NHTSA states.
The VoloLights is up for public funding on Kickstarter and Faizal Ali and Jesse Szynal, the guys behind it promise they will adapt the system for more types of motorcycles, in case the project reaches the $50,000 mark (€38,445). Watch the video after the jump and admit it: Vololights is just amazing!
