German automaker Volkswagen will unveil a new Golf GTI concept car at the 2013 Worthersee show scheduled later this month.
Developed to preview a future beefed up version of the company’s hot hatch, the new concept car will be “more realistic” than the Golf GTI W12 concept introduced at Worthersee in 2007, Volkswagen R&D boss Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg revealed.
“It won’t have as much power as the Golf GTI W12,” he said while speaking to CAR. As a reminder, the Golf GTI W12 concept was equipped with a mid-mounted twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine good for 641 bhp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Sourced from a Bentley, the mill took the outrageous GTI from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.7 seconds and to a top speed of 203 mph (326 km/h).
Getting back to our concept GTI in question, things might not be as complicated as they sound. Based on past Volkswagen habits, the vehicle to be showcased at this year’s Worthersee show will most likely preview the Edition 40 GTI, as the company’s famous go-fast hatchback will celebrate it’s 40th anniversary in 2016.
Or maybe the Germans have another thing going with this concept car and we’re about to see a new ludicrous piece of machinery. For the moment, waiting seems to be the best thing we can do...
