Volkswagen Still Considering a Roadster Like the BlueSport

In 2009, Volkswagen introduced a new concept at the Detroit Auto Show, a concept that blew people away. It was called the BlueSport and it previewed a future drop-top roadster, not only for big VDub, but also for Porsche and Audi.
The concept was also very environmentally friendly. Despite looking like a proper little sportscar, it was actually powered by a 2.0-liter Clean Diesel engine which delivered impressive fuel consumption of just 4.3 l/100km.

However, plans fell through, as Porsche didn't like the profit margins which came with sub-Boxster prices. The VW sportscar that was supposed to arrive as early as 2014 never got off the ground, but it was never forgotten.

Speaking to Auto Motor and Sport, VW Group chief designer Walter de Silva said the roadster is a vehicle they particularly liked and many company officials. He stopped short of revealing anything else regarding a production debut, but the fact that they are thinking about it means there's hope.

Volkswagen's lineup of "fun" cars has become a bit mysterious over the past few months. Officials have said the new Scirocco will be completely different, that there's a Jetta or Golf will have a CC version and that the Eos convertible could get the axe. Who knows where the BlueSport fits into this picture!

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
